Get to Know Us: A Journey of Chasing Dreams

We both grew up in the scenic bluff country of Southeast Minnesota, right along the banks of the mighty Mississippi River. Surrounded by natural beauty and inspired by the charm of small-town living, we’ve always felt connected to it’s people, to the land, and to the stories that it holds. Over the years, our journey has taken us on incredible paths, ultimately leading us here, to our dream of owning and operating a venue where memories are made and celebrated.

Rich has spent a portion of his career in the hospitality industry, including managing bars and nightclubs, bringing a wealth of experience in creating vibrant, welcoming spaces where people come together. He’s also been a dedicated public service employee for over a decade. Cari’s background blends creativity and leadership—she’s worked in corporate training and development, graphic design, layout artistry, and freelance creative services. Together, we’ve spent the last 6.5 years as wedding vendors, operating a successful mobile DJ, sound, and lighting business as a side-hustle in and around Red Wing, MN. It was during this time that our dream of owning our own venue began to take root.

We’ve always believed in chasing dreams, no matter the challenges. The time had come to simplify, reassess, explore the next chapter of our lives - our “Act 2” - and create a space where we could serve others in a meaningful way. With our love for music, hosting, and the great outdoors, The Gathering Barn is the perfect expression of everything we hold dear.

When we’re not working, you’ll find us singing and playing music, attending music festivals, biking, exploring nature, gardening, traveling, and spending time with our two giant fur babies—Portia and Zeus, our lovable Newfoundlands. Did we forget to mention food? Never! We are passionate foodies who enjoy exploring and savoring new flavors and supporting local establishments whenever we get the chance. We’re also proud parents of four amazing adult children and two beautiful grandchildren who inspire us every day to live life fully and chase our passions.

The Gathering Barn isn’t just a business for us; it’s the culmination of years of dreaming, planning, and refusing to let anything stand in the way of what we envisioned. We’re thrilled to welcome you into this space, to share its magic with you, and to be a part of your story. Whether it’s a wedding, celebration, or event, we’re here to make it unforgettable.
